Repair first, then finish
An older deck usually needs two things: structural work (soft or split boards, loose railings, shifted posts) and finish work (greyed, dried-out wood that needs cleaning and re-staining). We do both, in the right order. There's no point staining boards that need replacing.
A stain job only lasts as long as the prep behind it, so we clean and prep the surface properly before any product goes on.

Deck repair questions
Does my deck need repair or just stain?
If boards flex or feel soft, water pools, or railings are loose, that’s structural and needs repair first. If the wood is only faded or grey but solid, staining may be enough. We check on site.
How often should a deck be re-stained?
Most decks in our climate need it every 2 to 4 years, depending on sun and the product used. If water stops beading on the surface and the wood looks grey or dry, it’s time.
Can you replace a few boards without redoing the deck?
Yes, as long as the framing underneath is sound.
When is the best time to stain?
Late spring to early fall, in dry weather with mild temperatures, so the stain can cure properly.
